Raine has always been more of a warrior than a diplomat, but now she must use all of her charisma to bring the rivals of Arianthem together. Her close bonds with the all-female race of the Ha’kan ensure that alliance, but negotiations with the Empire go poorly until they receive an unexpected boost from a sultry ally. The reserved elven leader of the Alfar hints to Raine of cooperation, yet also hints that sexual conquest might be her price.
Events seem to sabotage the alliance as the Alfar leader kidnaps an imperial, the daughter of the wealthiest landholder in Arianthem. Raine is baffled by the strange actions of the elven noblewoman, actions that bring the entire land to the brink of war. The concord truly unravels when Skye, the young leader of the Tavinter, manifests magical abilities and unintentionally attracts monumental evil. Raine’s only hope is that her dragon lover will return from the Empty Land before all is lost and the evil that stalks Skye comes for her.

Where the first three books of this epic could each stand alone as individual stories, this forth book is more of a bridge between the earlier books and the books to come.. That is not a bad thing! Just know that you'll want to have read the first three first.. likely if you're interested you have already anyway.. My favorite of the series so far was the second book Sjofn Academy, so I was delighted that we spent the first half of this book back with the Ha’kan and all my favorite characters from Sjofn. If you love the banter (among other things) between Dallan, Rika, Lifa, and Skye you'll be glad to get reacquainted with them here.. The second half we once again see most of the original characters that quested with Raine back in book one, we see Syn and Lady Jorden from book three, as well as a new antagonist.. All things are congealing into an epic battle in the future.. Those invested in the series should enjoy the nostalgia of this book as well as watching the events take shape and move forward. If you haven't read the series you might be a bit lost, but that's only a good reason to get started on the series.. :) As a fan this book is satisfying and does a good job of wetting my appetite for the next book.. My only complaint would be how short the book is I read it in one evening.. More Please!!Product details

The Rival Concord The Chronicles of Arianthem IV edition by Samantha Sabian Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The epic continues. We see more of Skye and the Ha'kan. We learn a bit about Skye's background and family. Some old friends come back to play in this new episode. Jorden and Syn reappear briefly. Raine has an ongoing role and Wynild even reappears toward the end. The principal portion of the story, however is taken up by an elf-lady who isn't a very nice person. You will have to read it for yourself to understand how an arrogant and violent woman becomes so important to the plans of the good guys. As always, the book is well-written with fresh new plots and delightful characters.
This book was detailed in everything. The characters are amazing loving and funny. If you have read all of the books up to this one in the series then you know the next book is going to be just as good as the one before.
This is the 4th book i read from Samantha Sabian, wonderfully written as always. I've got the entire series of "The Chronicles of Arianthem" it was simply too good (especially "The Sjofn Academy"). Like one reviewer said this book "is a bridge that connect" the previous stories, the author once again got me hooked, i can't wait for the next book.
This author has really improved since writing the first book in this series, which I also enjoyed, though not as much as subsequent titles. The Chronicles of Arianthem just keep getting better and better; the writing quality, the depth of the plot, the development of the characters. It's satisfying to witness the skill level just continuously rise. I highly recommend it for anyone who has read the previous books and is looking for a hot and steamy fantasy fix. I eagerly await the next installment! Can't wait to see what happens.
If you haven't already read the first three of the series, then you're missing out and you should stop reading this review at once and go get a copy of The Dragon's Lover. Shoo, shoo, off you go then.
But if you have...
Please continue.
By far my favourite aspect of this series are the delightfully rich characters Samantha Sabian wove into my heart. She does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and letting us follow their antics, occasional blunders, and epic adventures. She has the ability to introduce characters in such a way that shortly after reading their name for the first time, it seems like you've known them since before you even read the first book. The quick intimacy between the reader and her characters opens up a world of possible hilarity that Samantha Sabian takes full advantage of.
I've yet to read any addition to this series without at least laughing with enough volume for the people nearby to assume I'm insane.
As the story moves toward its principal conflict, I'm eagerly waiting to see what adventures and antics we find our Arianthian friends getting themselves into next time.
This book is a pause in the action while the strands of the story are woven together. It is more about setting the scene for the next books in the series. I loved seeing all the characters from the quest in the first book back together and all the other characters I have grown to love are there too.
I really like the whole story line the only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is that its to heave on the sex side and in my opinion its taking away from the story. Maybe if the book were a bit longer then I would have been ok but I found myself jumping ahead many pages just waiting to get to the story and it is a very good story. Don't get me wrong. If you dont mind the heavy sexual content or jumping a few pages the story is very well written and the plot is interesting and compelling.
